The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP, Trieste, Italy) in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA, Vienna, Austria) is jointly organizing a School of Nuclear Knowledge Management.

The purpose of the School is to provide specialized education and training on implementation of knowledge management in nuclear science and technology. The main focus will be on innovation and knowledge management, knowledge creation, sharing etc., including knowledge mining and innovative approaches as well as on the lessons learned and practical solutions and good practices with the aim to form “forward thinking” and make results and insights directly applicable in a workplace in the nuclear sector.

The School will focus on methodological and design practices for Nuclear Knowledge Management (NKM), including information technology impact on NKM implementation, present the lessons learned and accumulate national experiences and good practices from NKM programmes in academia, industry and governmental sector and technical support organizations. The style of the meeting will be a series of leading presentations followed by practical sessions discussing the issues raised and difficulties envisaged. All chosen participants will be expected to be actively involved in discussions, panel reviews and school activities.

THE FOLLOWING TOPICS WILL BE COVERED:

- Introduction to Nuclear Knowledge and Knowledge Management Fundamentals
- Developing Policies and Strategies in Managing Nuclear Knowledge
- Managing Nuclear Information Resources
- Human Resources Development and Knowledge Transfer
- Practical Guidance and Best practices of KM
- Networking for Knowledge Sharing

Experts from organizations with recognized NKM programmes will provide the leading presentations and work (such as case studies) in breakout sessions. It is expected that all sessions will be as interactive as possible.

The invitation to the School is directed to scientists and managers in academia, industry and in the governmental sector who are in charge of managing nuclear knowledge in any form, either as data, as human resources or institutional knowledge.

PARTICIPATION

Applicants from all countries that are members of the United Nations, UNESCO or IAEA may attend. As the School will be conducted in English, participants should have an adequate working knowledge of this language. Although the main purpose of the Centre is to help research workers from developing countries through a programme of training activities within a framework of international cooperation, a limited number of students and post-doctoral scientists from developed countries are also welcome to attend. DUE TO ORGANIZATIONAL REASONS, THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS IS LIMITED.
